Chef Brian Sernatinger |
Cookin101 is a website dedicated to helping cooks of all skill levels to further their knowledge and understanding of everything that is “cooking.” Through video and text, hundreds of recipes, tips and techniques are shown in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format by professional chef Brian Sernatinger. Brian started working in an Italian restaurant in his home town at the age of 15, and that was where his fascination for cooking began to grow. He worked there throughout high school as a waiter and in the kitchen. Upon graduation from high school, he went to college at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earned a degree in Psychology and Spanish.
All through his four years of college, he continued to work in restaurants, never knowing that cooking would become more than just a passing interest for him. After graduating from college, Brian took on various temporary office job assignments. Working in an office made him realize that he did not want a career where he would be sitting down all day - he had to work with his hands.
So, Brian decided to attend the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan. After being graduated from the FCI, he learned all the skills and techniques needed to start working as a professional. Less than a week after graduating, Brian was hired by the immensely popular Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan. There he continued to learn and perfect his skills. After two years at Gramercy, Brian moved around the corner to help open Craft. A new concept in cooking and a solid crew in the kitchen opened Craft to rave reviews.
One year later, Brian set his sights abroad, on Spain. During a semester abroad while in college, Brian had developed a love for Spain, so he decided to live and work there if possible. After 14 months and the seemingly impossible approval of a work visa, he began cooking at one of the most popular restaurants in Seville. He quickly moved up the ranks to head sous chef and then was promoted to executive chef of the new sister restaurant. After three years working there, he decided to help open yet another restaurant, staying there one year to get it running and then moving on again. Another year at one of the most popular restaurants in Seville and Brian decided to move back home to New York. Seven years in Spain has given Brian a strong background in the healthy, fresh and lively flavors of the Mediterranean diet. Brian is currently living in New York working as a private chef and also cooks at home making videos and recipes for Cookin101.com.
After years of cooking in restaurants, what Brian enjoys most is sharing the knowledge he has gained over the years in order to help others become better cooks. |
